Common refrigerator problems
Choose the problem closest to yours to start a request with it. You don’t need a diagnosis to book; the causes below are common possibilities that a technician confirms on site.
Not cooling
A refrigerator that runs but stays warm is often limited by dirty condenser coils, a failed evaporator or condenser fan, or a defrost problem that has iced over the coils. Less often the cause is in the sealed system. A technician can test each part and tell you which one it is.

Food freezing in the fresh-food section can point to a control set too low, a faulty thermistor or temperature control, or a damper stuck open that lets too much freezer air through.

Water on the floor or under the crisper drawers often comes from a blocked defrost drain, a cracked drain pan, or a leaking water line or inlet valve on models with ice and water.

An ice maker can stop producing ice because of a frozen or kinked supply line, a failing water inlet valve, a freezer that isn’t cold enough, or a fault in the ice maker assembly itself.

A dispenser that gives little or no water may have a clogged filter, a frozen line in the door, a faulty inlet valve, or a dispenser switch that no longer responds.

Clicking, buzzing or grinding usually comes from a fan blade striking ice, a worn fan motor, or a compressor or start relay that is struggling. Noting when the sound happens helps narrow it down.

If the refrigerator is completely silent, the cause may be the outlet or breaker, a failed control board, or a start component on the compressor. Check that the outlet works before booking.

A door that won’t seal can be caused by a worn or torn gasket, a refrigerator that has lost its level, or a sagging hinge or door closer. A poor seal also makes the refrigerator work harder.

Frost on the back wall or around the door usually means warm air is getting in or the defrost system isn’t clearing the coils, often a defrost heater, sensor or timer problem.

Refrigerator repair questions
Is it worth repairing my refrigerator?
It depends on the age of the refrigerator, the part that failed and the cost of the repair compared with a replacement. After the diagnosis your technician gives you an estimate, so you can decide before any repair work begins.
What is sealed system diagnostics?
The sealed system is the compressor, coils and refrigerant inside the refrigerator. Diagnosing it takes specialized testing. If your technician suspects a sealed-system problem, they’ll explain what that testing involves before doing it.
What should I do with my food while I wait?
Keep the doors closed as much as possible to hold the cold in, and move perishable food to a cooler or another refrigerator if the temperature keeps rising.
How much does a service call cost?
Our $99 service call covers the technician’s visit and diagnosis. If you approve the repair, the full $99 is applied toward it, and your repair quote already includes that credit. Nothing is repaired until you authorize it.
What if I decide not to repair the appliance?
The $99 service call covers the visit and diagnosis and remains payable if you decide not to repair. No repair work begins without your authorization.
What brands do you repair?
Tell us your appliance brand and model when you book, and we’ll confirm whether we can service it before the visit.
How long is the appointment window?
Appointments have a 2-hour arrival window.
